Which versions of Outlook do you support?

I use Outlook on different computers. Can I synchronize my data between those multiple copies of Outlook?

Yes. Just install the Sync plug-in on each of those computers, and synchronize each normally.

Which kinds of data can I synchronize?

You can synchronize data from any of these four categories: Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes.

Which data formats do you support?

Contacts vCard 2.1
Calendar vCalendar 1.0 (vEvent)
Tasks vCalendar 1.0 (vTodo)
Notes vNote 1.1

Can I sync my mobile devices?

We will continue to develop additional sync clients, including those that support mobile devices. Specifically, we intend to release a sync client for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Pocket PC.

Commercial clients and the existing Funambol clients may work with our server, provided they use the data formats listed above.

Can I schedule automatic synchronizations?

Yes. You can schedule the plug-in to automatically synchronize your data, as frequently as every 15 minutes.

Can I move my synchronized folders around in Outlook?

Yes. As long as folders remain within the root folder (specified in the Advanced Options section, for each type), the data should remain synchronized.

I made some changes to my company directory or a shared calendar, but those changes aren't displayed in webmail. Why not?

The company directory is maintained by your domain administrator. When you sync the company directory with Outlook, Outlook allows you to make changes to company directory entries. These changes, however, will remain on your computer only, and will not be applied to the actual company directory.

Likewise, events in another user's shared calendar are maintained by its respective owner. When you sync another user's shared calendar with Outlook, Outlook will allow you to make changes to that user's calendar, but those changes will remain on your computer only, and will not be applied to the user's shared calendar.

When attempting to synchronize items you have changed, either in the company directory or in a user's shared calendar, you may receive an alert message, explaining that you have changed some read-only items.

What kind of synchronization server do you use?

We use a version of the "generally available" Funambol Data Synchronization Server, Version 6.0, extended to operate against our databases (http://www.funambol.com/opensource/).

Did you write the Sync plug-in from scratch?

No. The plug-in is based heavily on the open-source Funambol Outlook Plug-in.
